Car Crash - an old women from the midwest

May 21st, 2008 by shorewoodwalker in Uncategorized · No Comments

“Golly gee! what did you do to my car sonny?!!” I was infuriated. I can’t believe this had happened to me! The lord must be mad at me for something! “um mam you ran into me.” The young boy replied. He was probably in his early 20s, brown hair, and 6ft tall or so. These kids now a days have no respect for their wise elders. Back in my day, we were told to treat all our elders with the most respect possible and if we chose not to, then we would be slaped! Who is this here young son of a gon telling me that the car crash was my fault! ” Who are you sonny to tell me that I ran into you!” I replied. “Well mam, you have to stop at those red signs. Thats why they say stop on them.” He said sarcastically, as if I didn’t know that. I have been driving a long long time and I think I know more then this boy! I swear I stoped at that ol’ stop sign…

1. Why did Walter ask Ruth what was wrong with her?
He asked her because she was mad at him for asking about money the first thing in the morning.

What will the United States look like in 50 years?

May 15th, 2008 by shorewoodwalker in Uncategorized · No Comments

The United States will probably look extremely industrialized in 50 years. I think we will be competing with many countries such as China to become more developed, so the rural areas of the country will be a lot smaller and limited. When i think of an image in my mind, I think of a big city like New York or Los Angeles, with bigger and a lot more freeways, monorails, subways, and skyscrapers. Also people rushing around talking on their cell phones like their hurrying to get somewhere important. Somewhat like now but more extreem. Very chaotic.

At the same time I think that we will be in lots of debt because we owe so many countries money right now. I can see the United States starting to look something like the Great Depression in 50 years. The image I think of is a huge quantity of homeless people on the streets begging for money, shelter, a job, and food, again, very chaotic.

These two very different views, but what they really have in common, at least in my opinion, is that they’re very negative. With the country so industrialized, there would be no room for all the beautiful nature and landscape any more. With the country in debt, our people and country would be almost dying. These might be very extreme and maybe unrealistic, but either way, I think things need to get better now so we can depend on a healthy future.

response about ken robinson

May 15th, 2008 by shorewoodwalker in Uncategorized · No Comments

I don’t think that dance is more important than math because math will get you father then dance will, even if your really good, but i don’t think that dance is bad I just think you need to have a backup plan. He even said that kids have to be prepared to be wrong, so if you can’t get far in dance, you have something else to lean back on.

I don’t think that school kills creativity completely because kids have their own minds especially when they get older. Just because a teacher says something definately doesn’t mean that it’s important to the students. I think it does in some ways though, sitting in a desk all day or a dark room does not inspire a kid at all. If school was outdoors or more active and kinesthetic, then it would make kids more creative.

Faber’s speech from F451 response

May 15th, 2008 by shorewoodwalker in Uncategorized · No Comments

I thought that this was a very interesting speech from the book. I definitely feel the same was as he does when he says “I often wonder it God recognizes His own son the way we’ve dressed him up, or is it dressed him down?” I think that religion, and Christianity in general tends to try to get everyone to believe a certain thing that they forget what it means to actually be religious, almost in the same way of politics. All of the sudden being right seems to be so much more important than doing the right things. I also think that religious people think about ‘after death’ so much that they forget to actually live today. I think that Faber was scared of not being accepted when he didn’t do anything to change it at the fire. Sometimes, when you believe something different then others they judge you, and in this book, if he spoke out his consequences would be a lot worse than just people or “God” not liking you, it would probably be death.

I think that montog and faber could start to secretly write their own books or try to speak out on their beliefs on Christianity. Honestly I don’t really know what they should do, no matter what they do it seems like they would either be killed or they couldn’t take any action. I don’t know what I would do in this situation. Hopefully, other people can learn from them and if this idea about Christianity continues, maybe something can happen in the future to change this, but for now I can’t find any immediate answers.

What I read 9/17

May 15th, 2008 by shorewoodwalker in Uncategorized · No Comments

I read some of the anthem today. The part I read about was when they went to the council to try to share their new idea about the glass box of electicity (or a light bulb.) The council was not happy about it though because equality 7-2521 did this on their own instead of with their brothers. The council was extreemly angry and said that they should be burned at the stake. I think they are pretty naive to do this, they should of known that the council wasn’t really doing what was best for everyone but instead trying to stay in power.
Then, they ran through the Uncharted Forest with their glass box and said that they laughed for the first time and rolled down the hill. They were breaking a lot of laws.

Brain Candy Response

May 15th, 2008 by shorewoodwalker in Uncategorized · No Comments

I do agree with this article. I think that popular culture is making us a lot smarter. If we have a chance to question reality television, then we can end up questioning many other things as well. I think that tetris is very good for you because it represents a puzzel, which is mathematic. So you should not get in trouble for playing it in class because it is educational.
I don’t agree with it in other ways too though, when your playing video games, you can start over, you can hide behind things, and you can change your difficulty level too. In real life, you can’t do that, you don’t get second chances most of the time, you don’t get to switch levels, and you don’t get to hide.
Over all I think that technology can make us smarter and dumber at the same time. I think it all depends on how you live with it. If you use it too much and think of it as real life, then it can make you dumber. But if you use it wisely and question it, then it can definately make you smarter.

What I read today, 10/22

May 15th, 2008 by shorewoodwalker in Uncategorized · No Comments

Today I read “Wild Mind, Living The Writer’s Life.” The Author was writing about how to write and the basics of of being a good writer. It was very interesting and aplies to what we are learing in class right now too. He talked about his own experiances with being a writing and a reporter. He said that he knew a man once named Roshi, who was a zen master and buddhist. The Author wanted to have an interview with him and noticed so much about himself as well. He learned about his own ignorance, arrogance, and stubborness but also about kindness and compassion, and that being a good writer means being patient. He talked about the rules of writing and how they can apply to everday life too. the first rule was keep your hand moving and don’t stop writing until you are done, the second rule was lose control. the third rule was be specific; sort of life don’t tell me show me. And the last rule was don’t think, just write all your first thoughts down.

Tomorrow will be a better day.

May 15th, 2008 by shorewoodwalker in Uncategorized · No Comments

1. He hooks the reader by telling us a story of how he was ease dropping on his parents one night and told us how they were talking about his future and how his dad was so frusterated and scared. He started in the beggining of an action and made us want to know more about what his point was.
2. The specifics he uses are that his grandparents saw two world wars, a killer flu, segregation, and a nuclear bomb.
3. He says “But they saw other things, too, better things: the end of two world wars, the polio vaccine, passage of the civil rights laws.” And he talks about how he thinks we will see better things too like a cure to aids and peace in the middle east.
4. the title that he uses is a quote that his dad would say to him when he was younger and he had a bad day. His dad would tell him “tomorrow will be a better day.” So its creative and hooks the reader even more.
